Coast Guard Auxiliary Association receives major homeland security grant for Waterway Watch Program --

The Coast Guard Auxiliary Association has received a $96,000 grant from the Nationwide Insurance Companies. The grant will be used in furthering the Auxiliary’s effort in support of the Coast Guard’s Maritime Homeland Security mission. The grant will fund materials consisting of a sticker to be affixed to boats or vehicles and a descriptive brochure for distribution to the boating public highlighting what the Waterway Watch program is and how they can become  involved. The grant will also be used to produce an educational video tape and DVD for use within the Auxiliary and with boaters in public meetings.

The Coast Guard Auxiliary Association (CGAuxA) supports the activities of the U. S. Coast Guard Auxiliary. The corporation conducts affairs related to the US Coast Guard Auxiliary but is a separate legal entity and is authorized to receive safety grants and accept other items for appropriate purposes. A key activity of CGAuxA is the pursuit of partnerships and alliances with other organizations that will enhance the US Coast Guard Auxiliary's recreational boating safety programs. “Nationwide is to be commended for this major effort in support of the Auxiliary’s Maritime Domain Awareness pubic outreach program,” National Commodore Bill Edgerton said in announcing the grant. “Waterway Watch will now be able to reach America’s boaters with a meaningful Maritime Homeland Security thrust. We thank Coast Guard Auxiliary Associations, Inc. Nationwide for this truly patriotic grant and know that our two organizations will continue to be jointly involved in many Auxiliary programs. Bravo Zulu!” Both Nationwide and the Auxiliary confirm that the discrete notice of Nationwide’s contribution, printed on the material, in no way represents an endorsement of Nationwide but is simply an acknowledgement of this grant. The materials will be ready for distribution within the Auxiliary in about four to five weeks. Ordering procedures will be announced shortly. Previews of the materials are at www.cgauxed.org/waterway.htm.
